Hmmm, the government letting private business owners and consumers the right to makeup their own minds about smoking policies, what a novel concept!

I rarely have to go into the city anymore (work). But, a few weeks ago I rode in to Soho to see the showing of the "Senna" documentary that would never make it to my rural area. I enjoyed a nice outdoor dinner at a Soho pub and smoked my pipe without any issue. Other customers (mostly NYU students) were smoking cigarettes. I shared my pipe lighter with a few cute NYC gals who took great delight in my pipe and the lighter. I had a little time after dinner, so just smoked on the steps of a small park near the movie theater. It was a warm night and I was amazed at all the people out on a Monday evening. No one gave me grief about the pipe, a few NYC policemen even walked by without interest. There is some hope!

I bummed a light from a cop smoking his Newports on my way into Central Park last week. He asked me about the pipe to make sure what I was smoking wasn't green, we joked about the pedicabs, and bid each other good night. No sensible person cares for insensible laws.
