Hi all,

I am not sure if it's me or the pipe (I suspect it's a bit f both), but my Chacom Atlas Marble tends to get very hot during smoking. Yestuerday it was so hot I couldn't hold it - this was just at the bottom though, but on the way down things tend to be a bit warm. I don't have this problem to the same extent on the Savinelli Dante I smoke, but it also gets a bit toasty on the bottom too from time to time.

I think the Chacom is just this way inclined, but could this be related to my puffing (which is more or less constant) or packing (which might be on the loose side, but to be honest, I don't think I have the experience to tell)?

Thanks!

A

It's probably got thinner walls. I have a Comoy's that gets red hot in the heel if I puff a little too hard. It's got fairly thin walls.
It's ok though, I use that pipe for VAs and it reminds me to slow down. I smoke pretty fast and hot in other pipes and they don't heat up like that Comoy's.

Some pipes can dissipate/absorb heat better than others, but honestly I'd say the biggest factor in it all is how hot you're smoking. If you're chooching like a freight train, the pipe is naturally going to get hot. Try slowing down.

Thanks for the suggestion Jaylotw. When I have more pipes, I'll try and organise them into blend types and give the Chacom a 'cooler' smoke. I doo chooch like a freight train though. I'm working on it, but it ain't easy!

I'll try sipping more (though I've been getting better at that). Not sure about trying the tobacco, it seems pretty dry already, though I honestly don't know what constitutes 'wet', so...

And sorry to disapoint, Oz!

I'll try that, hoosier, as I suspect it might be my constant puffing (though I don't puff super hard anymore!). I'll pack a bit looser tomorrow and see what happens.

Though, like grangerous, my Chacom looks great, and smokes great, but it's clearly not the best made thing in the world. The slot for the filter is a touch wide, and the heat travels up the spout a bit.
Maybe I've been a bit unlucky with this one or Chacom's just have a touch of jankiness to them?

Some pipes do smoke somewhat hot. But most of the issues are the smoker or the tobacco. If it's pipe, there's chance it will break in. Might take time. If it's you, do what @hoosierpipeguy suggested. Also, try Latakia if you are smoking Va. Va burns little hotter.
