I've been retired for almost 17 years now.As we all know a lot of attitudes about smoking has changed in those years.A friend just told me that his work place has now gone smoke free.I guess I was lucky that I could always smoke my pipes where I worked. In fact if someone saw me not smoking my pipe they would ask me where it was. They were that used to seeing me with a pipe in my mouth.I don't think that interfered with me doing my job.In fact I believe it led to more calm thought through decisions.I dont have a clue wheather or not those working there now can smoke though.I hope they still can.

According to Fire Dept Policies and Procedures we are forbidden to smoke either on the rigs or in the station,......we are to be 25'-0" from any public access.
Being a senior Lieutenant with 25 years on the job,....and a rebelious butt-head, I've made it known that they can shove their rules up their,.....well....I smoke a pipe in the rig-room whenever I want..and fire up m' pipe at the fire scene almost every time.
Nobody says a word other than "Wow, that's nice." :nana:

Heh heh, nice Tommy.
Myself? I smoke outside the building, which is actually against the rules now -- but never inside anymore. I don't keep my pipe in my mouth or a cigarette in my ear anymore either, too much of a hassle dealing with customers who want to bitch about it (oddly enough my boss was easy enough to deal with).
Hell just in classes at the uni I've had students give me rants about my cigarettes kept in my ear, or the pipe in my hand/clenched. I dun know why they seem to think it's their business, but complaints have ranged from my own health to the smell to people claiming that the (empty) pipe would give them cancer. . . but at school I' allow to say. . .words not said in polite company. . ..

Before I was laid off we had designated smoking areas, which were the loading docks next to the garbage bins...I never went there. Instead I broke the rules and went to the courtyard and sat down on a bench or a table next to the pond.
Most places around here have those areas they allow smokers to smoke. But usually it's in a place that's completely away from any comfortable or scenic areas.

Following the white rabbit
I was sitting inside my truck once, waiting for my turn to be loaded, and smoking a pipe. The security guard came over and informed me that smoking was not allowed anywhere on the property. I told him I would do as I pleased inside my truck, but would not smoke outside of my truck.
Well, Barney Fife tried to make a big deal of it. He threatened to call the police. I told him to go ahead and do so, rolled up my window, and continued to enjoy my pipe. I was there for a couple of hours and never did see a police car.

Alright pipetrucker! Secutity guards seem to have small man syndrome. Even if they're 300 lbs! I think it's great. That guy probably went home and beat his wife... HaHaHaHa.

By the way, I don't agree with wife beating. Although, I understand it.

I work in a bar/pub, so I can smoke outside the building on my (short and few) breaks during a shift. No smoking at all inside though. Happily still allowed to smoke just outside the pub, or in the garden at the back, without any "you must be atleast such a distance from the place" signs. My university doesnt allow smoking inside buildings or within 5 feet of one.

My work's entire property has been designated nonsmoking. They have 10 acres with concrete paths going around the building and through the woods. All the cig smokers walk up to the top of the parking garage to smoke. We even have picnic tables outside and can't even smoke there.
