The lead singer for Smash Mouth just passed at age 56 from liver failure after about 2 days in hospice.

The most widespread fame came from the Shrek movies with the Monkee's cover of I'm a Believer. The band also appeared in the under appreciated movie, Rat Race (with an all-star cast). All Star and Walkin on the Sun were other hit singles.

By all accounts, he was a hard liver.

That's very Crass of you. See what I did there?

Ha ha, yes. Well played. I thought to bring up Crass but paused as I felt like I might of needed to explain who they were while simultaneously feeling like maybe it would be condescending to assume that who I replied to here; or those others who might of read my comment, wouldn't of known who they are.

edit: regarding Crass, I have certain lyrics of theirs etched into my memory from my early teen years such as: "classified, pacified / keep in line, you're doing fine / lost your voice? ain't know choice / play the game, silent and tame / you're the passive observer, sit back and look / at the world that they're destroying and the peace that they took / ask no questions, receive no lies / and you'll be living in the comfort, of a fools paradise / you're already dead"

Probably fubbed a couple words but not bad for a song I scarcely listen to anymore. Did you/do you like the Subhumans as well?

I know about Crass and Subhumans, but was more into Misfits, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Minor Threat, Ramones, and Sex Pistols for punk (Stooges and MC5 for earlier punk).

I remember Chumbawumba being on the Rosie O'Donnell talk show where Rosie was jumping to Tubthumping and stated she was an anarchist. Rosie then backtracked later, stating she didn't know what an anarchist was. Rather disingenuous for a Boston comic, but I digress.

Yea... I was into all of that as well, but rarely listen to much of it anymore. Maybe The Clash or Black Flag here and there, or the Misfits who might in a way of been the most "musical" but suffered from horrible recordings in my opinions. But, I diagress...

I recall Chumbawumba being on some talk show and telling people that they should shoplift their CD. I guess it didn't matter much to them as they would get paid for those lost units regardless. Anyways, we live in a time now where spotify basically shoplifts from most recording artists.

Has Rosie every said anything remotely funny? Her sitcom was entertaining back in the day despite her being the focus but I can't ever remember her saying anything that made me actually laugh.

Punk bands filled a void for me, but didn't have a long shelf life (except for the Stooges, Ramones, MC5, and Misfits). I like Henry Rollins as a writer and for spoken word, but can't listen to Black Flag daily.

I never found Rosie funny, but enjoyed her in A League of Their Own.

I know exactly what you mean but it's an unnecessarily long conversation in my mind so I'll leave it at that.

I always preferred Peni and Omega Tribe to Crass in that early anarcho scene.

Those well... I never even heard of. Look forward to educating myself.

I remember hearing about Crass and it taking me like 2 years in middle school to get ahold of a Crass record which made me love them even more. Ever hear the K.U.K.L. records on Crass with Bjork? Those might be re-worth a listen don't recall liking them so much back then.

You've never heard Rudimentary Peni?! Seriously the best. Death Church is a fantastic EP, but the Cacophony LP is a masterpiece of Lovecraftian hallucinations.
Omega Tribe is more straight ahead punk in that Post '76, Pre-UK82 vein.
Angry Songs, and No Love Lost are foundational for me. They were on Crass Records then Corpus Christi.
