I tend to like having a rubber pipe bit on the end of my stems...I wouldn't say I'm a chomper, usually holding the pipe in my hand, but sometimes I like to use my teeth, so the bits give me something nice to grab onto without destroying my stems! hehe In the past, I've purchased the standard issue ones on cupojoes or pipesandcigars, and they've worked for most of my pipes.
I recently acquired and restored a group 2 Dunhill from 1942 and would like to preserve its stem, since it's the original, but the bits I have slide all over the place, the stem being a little too narrow. I also have a Peterson churchwarden whose stem is too narrow for the bits to stay in place. It makes me nervous because I will have the pipes in between my teeth, and I can feel the pipes sliding out!
In the past, I'd seen mention of a smaller rubber pipe bit being offered, but I haven't been able to locate them. Pipesandcigars offers three different bits, but all look to be for standard pipes, which it was I am already using. One of them says it's a bit thicker for the extra heavy chewer, which I am not, but wondered if the extra thickness might help? Or if there was some smaller bits, but I am just looking in the wrong place (completely possible)?

I think some people have suggested using shrink wrap. I'd find a food grade one to use fro pipes.

Thanks for the suggestions for Doing It Myself! hehe Like I said, I had seen mention of people buying smaller bits, but never see anything but standard sized ones for sale.
I went to HD to look for some tubing...the only smaller sized I saw was that ugly yellow latex, so I held off. Came home looked on Amazon and found black latex tubing in varying lengths. So I bought 4 feet of it, got the 1/4" inner diameter since the regular bits I have bought are 3/8" ID.
I would have preferred regular rubber tubing or silicone since latex can get gunky, but I figure with 4 feet of it I will have plenty of replacements. I found some black silicone tubing on Amazon, but no dimensions were given so I figured I'd better go with the known quantity.
I'll let you know how it works out when I get it, and if the latex leaves an annoying taste. Thanks again.
