I used to have a bruyere garantie cheapie with these specs, but I broke the bit and tossed it away. I want to find something similar, a smaller bowl, with that magic thin and narrow bit... you just forget it's even there. Can anyone recommend a make and model? I find those older author shapes just have the perfect bend, but are not so easy to come by. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Much obliged.

Thanks y'all. Al- That Rhodesian looks nice, I see this Ashton "Bent Apple" on smoking pipes.com, I imagine that is the same as "author" you are referring to. Seems to have the right dimensions, but I am most concerned about the bit, as a clencher, comfort truly is king, how does that Rhodesian hang in your trap? How's the weight? regular pipe cleaners work ok? Thanks a million.

I'm a pretty big fan of Ashton pipes, new (Jimmy Craig) or old (Bill Taylor). I have four Taylor pipes and two Craig. The Craig pipes smoke great, that Rhodesian in particular. It easily passes a cleaner with the same draw as my older Ashtons. That one is a XX pipe and weighs 50 grams. It's great for clenching as the stem is "Ashtonite" which has a vulcanite type feel but is more durable.

Jimmy sells a lot of pipes on Ebay, but doesn't currently have any Author shapes.

Max @ Pipes2Smoke.com also sells a lot of Craig pipes.

I have two author shape pipes, a Peterson Kapet and a Luciano. Both have middle size bowls and fairly broad

bits, not narrow. Since I like the shape, I always watch for them, but they aren't so easy to find. There's a lot

more availability and variety in apple shapes for example, and more smaller ones available. Given your

specific needs on this, I think I'd try to shop in person for it, phoning around first ... if that's possible where

you are. I think bits have become broader, maybe because this spreads the weight of the pipe more evenly

across more teeth when it's being clenched. My narrowest bits are on my oldest pipes. If you are not where

you can shop in person, you might try phoning online sites and see if you can find someone to take an interest

in your needs here. You'll find it, but it will take some work. Good luck.
