The last four days my dads left foot has been swollen. He says he didn't break it. About month ago he was bitten by a tick on that foot. He says it throbs and he can't put pressure on it to walk so I drove him on down to Columbia SC to the VA and where waiting to see the Doc. Pipe related, I did enjoy some Best Brown Flake in my Falcon on the way down here.

f you don't find something broken be sure the Doc knows about the tick.. Lyme's left untreated get's nasty.

Hope your dad gets (got) an accurate diagnosis. The tick may or may not be associated. Feet are a sensitive

area, especially as we age. Hope he found a good doc to run this down and keep track of it. Good luck to

both of you. A good pipe eases many a bad situation. I came back to pipe smoking when my wife was in

rehab for revision of a hip replacement (replacing the replacement) with infection complications. A blast of

Nightcap was better than bourbon, to allow me to get up and get back to her the next day.

Well, we were down there for seven hours last night. They did some test and said it wasn't gout. Waiting on another test for bacteria to come back. I still don't understand why it took as long as it did. Well, I'm off to take my daughter shopping for clothes and back to school supplies. She'll be a senior in high school this year. Gonna be a Long day, only had 4 hours sleep. I'll get to sleep tonight though. Thanks everybody.

Good luck with your father. If they may suspect Lyme, don't even bother with the standard Lyme test, it is about 30% effective. Make sure you ask for the Western Blot, which is 90% effective. You might ask "why not give the Western Blot" first?...I have the same question! Best answer I received is that the WB is 300.00. Lyme disease, which I have, was named after Lyme, CT, which is the next town over from me.

MP31guitar, if they haven't already done it, insist on a test for Lyme Disease.
One of my daughters had a similar incident. I told her it could possibly be Lyme Disease.

She went back to the doctor and when he finally tested for it, that's what it was.
Bullbriar, when I ran a business in Hamden, CT, one of my customers was head of Rheumotology at Yale, who discovered the disease.

What town are you in? I spent many summers at Black Point in Niantic years ago at my inlaw's place.

John,

I live in Oakdale, just down the road from Black Point. I keep my boat in Niantic as well.
