The other day I stopped by my local smoke shop to pick up some pipe cleaners and there it was, that dark blue and orange striped can staring at me from the shelf. What possessed me to pick it up I do not know, but I'm glad I did. Once home I broke out a fresh cob and started breaking her in, as expected, the first few smokes were a little rough. But after a half dozen or so bowls she's smoking SWRA cool, dry and sweet. What a fantastic smoke! Carter Hall back seat. I would like to thank the enablers who talked up SWRA in the forums, now I have a new favorite.

Yup, SWRA is a very good tobacco and doesn’t really get the love it deserves. A pleasant and subtle aromatic topping that still lets the natural tobacco taste shine, no bite, smooth, creamy smoke, can be smoked all day long, easily available and not at all expensive. Seriously, I don’t know why this OTC blend doesn’t get more attention. It deserves to.

Amphora Original was my OTC for several years, until it disappeared from my area in the mic-1980s. I switched to SWRA then, and that's been my number one OTC since. It'd better be since I have nine cans of it. :)

They did change it a little. Before the early 2000s, it had less cocoa, a finer cut, and it occasionally made me cough. The current version doesn't make me cough, which is a plus.

probably because that description is the opposite of what you would imagine it to be like. Which is not a good place to be. Because the people who would like it will avoid it and the people who it's not their thing will be more likely to buy it.

Jim, your review over at tobaccoreviews.com is excellent and spot on! Even though I read it after the fact. :)

You know, I have tried a lot of burly blends over the last few years and this is the first blend I have smoked that keeps the flavor from top to bottom without an ashy taste towards the end. Impressive to say the least and it burns to ash with no dottle, another plus. I have also smoked SWR in the past and it was okay but nothing to write home about, SWR and SWRA are worlds apart and it's hard to believe they come from the same house. I never thought I'd be smoking an aromatic blend and enjoying it, but I do. I may have to try this blend in a briar and see if it smokes as well as it does in a cob.
