Nothing quite like being happily surprised by a tobacco. This blend did just that for me. I had fairly low expectations for this blend and it has turned into one of the blends that I now smoke on a regular basis.
I wanted to pass the word around to other folks who might not give this a try because it is an OTC and didn't want to waste their time. It is worth your time and your (very little amount of) money.
The cut is shag and almost reminds me of RYO tobacco. It is not like the cube-ish cut of the regular SWR. The color of the fine cut strings of tobacco are yellow and light brown with an occasional black. I can tell this is VA, Burley and a touch (barely any...hardly noticeable) of black cavendish. In short, this is not SWR regular with a bunch of casing on it.
The tobacco is fairly dry and not the least bit "goopy" like many aromatic blends.
The smell from the pouch is fantastic, but I still can not really put my finger on what it is (vanilla, orange liquor, spice, caramel, toasted marshmellows??). The taste upon lighting is very similiar to the smell of the pouch, but the true taste of burley and VA do some nice work in the background and support the smoke the entire time.
It packs great and you can burn it down to the bottom with no re-light. It can bite if you are very aggressive, but with the shag cut that is bound to happen.
You can smoke this one without paying much attention to it, but it does get a little sour towards the bottom which is fairly common in burley based blends sometimes.
I mainly smoke VA blends that would not be considered by many outside of this forum to be aromatic. With it being summer and me being outside a lot, I have been smoking this in public because I enjoy it and I always get compliments on the smell coming from the pipe. Have even gotten positive comments from some usually harsh critics.
So check it out...I think you may really enjoy it. thbg

Will definitely give it a go, thanks for the review. Sometimes those good old OTC blends are overlooked with all the fancy schmancy custom blends out there.

Like Thbg kinda said .. SWR and SWRA are two totally different blends . SWR being a straight Burley almost cube cut and SWRA being a ribbon cut of Burley and maybe some Va. . The SWRA is a fantastic blend to light and keep lit and the aroma has given me more compliments than any other blend I've smoked out and about . It's not a black cavendish aromatic and in the world of OTC Aros , thats pretty rare . It's aromatic flavor is up front and it has more nicotine than many other aromatics . I've known a couple guys that didnt care for it but most at least liked it . If you dig the aromatic flavor then you will enjoy this blend and it's ease of smoking . If you dont like the aromatic flavor [ kinda like I cant stand Lakelands ] then you wont enjoy it . the aroma really is a chick magnet :)I've been smoking this one a while and it's always been consistant !
