???? Got the notice that SJF was back in stock at SP this morning at 09:47 my time. Logged onto SP @ 09:53 and got the dreaded “out of stock”. ? How Big (or really how LOW) of an allotment did they receive?? Haven’t seen it in stock anywhere for the better part of a year.4714A427-CAA3-46A6-B1F1-7C1CD5CF9F3D.png06BDB258-524E-4369-83BE-B63FD3D71758.jpeg

Had I ordered one tin of this ,even if shipped via UPS Super saver to us in the EU, after all proceedings and customs surcharges, this'll cost me no less than $ 40
I brought two up from Florida through the mail, 12 bucks each, 12 or 15 for shipping, so in for close to 40, then got hit at the border for 77 dollars in taxes, I was not too pleased. So whether I like Sir John's or not, it's 4 dollars a bowl when I smoke it!

When I was building my cellar in 2012-2013 I tried a tin of Sir Johns and a tin of Aylesbury Luxury Flake. I ended up loving the Luxury flake and was not impressed at all with Sir Johns. I have around 125 plus tins of the Luxury Flake and none of the Sir Johns.
The Luxury Flake is now being called Classic Flake. I have no idea how it compares to my batches of Luxury Flake. I stopped buying Luxury flake in 2013 once I was comfortable with the amount I had stashed away.

It was tough to get even back then. I cut a deal with a large tobacconist that if he sold me 50 tins at a time I would except a 10% discount. Sure I asked for 20 then 15 and he finally relented at 10%.
The reality was I would have paid full boat just to get 50 tins at a time.

While expensive for pipe tobacco, that's 1/3 to 1/4 of retail for a premium cigar for the same time of smoking. And you get to keep the pipe afterwords!
Not really. The cigar can easily smoke twice as long so not very comparable with the mediocre Sir John's.

Real numbers are closer to $.75 to $1 per bowl for pipe tobacco and $6 min for a reasonable cigar. $8 to $10 per cigar is more accurate. Takes me about the same amount of time to smoke a Robusto size cigar as a bowl of pipe tobacco. Bottom line, there's at least an 8:1 cost ratio favoring pipe tobacco

Mark, thanks for doing the math, I so suck at it. All I know is that pipe tobacco is so much cheaper that I don't understand why people won't spend the money on the most expensive tins? I am glad they didn't when I was building my cellar. My only real competition back then was peckinpahombre. After I give that prick my best flakes list, he holds out on me about Brigham Klondike Gold. He finally tells me and I buy at least a 125 tins before he could blink. Once I had enough I told him about the luxury Flake, turnabout was fair play.
He could buy like me with 50 tin orders quite easily.
Hopefully Peck will grace us with his presence. I would love to see his man cave again. Maybe his wife took it over to turn it into a dress making shop. So what happened Peck, did she get tired of your pipes and tobacco? Are you smoking your beloved Carter Hall in a cob?

I always knew you were a secret cob lover, freaking piker that you are.
