For those of you that like pipe talk I thought this might be an interesting thread. Do you have an old pipe that you keep coming back to again and again? It doesn't have to be an expensive pipe...maybe its one that has some sentimental value or one that you just like but it is a frequent flyer in your collection. Tell us about it if you would like.
Me first!
I bought this pipe about 40 years ago and it was pre owned when I bought it. It is a Georgetown. I don't know anything specific about this line of pipes but I paid almost nothing for it and my uncle fixed it up for me.
I have smokes many hundreds of bowls in this bad boy and keep coming back to it. Maybe its the fact that it was one of my first pipes but in spite of the fact that I have many more valuable pipes it has a place of honor in my collection. I have reamed it several times over the years and have cleaned up the stem a couple of times over the years but thats about it. I basically smoke it, run a pipe cleaner through it and let it rest until the next time. Tell us about your oldie but goodie if you would like. IMG_1729.jpeg

I love threads like this one. In hopes to encourage more pictures of well-smoked and well-loved old pipes, here is a picture of some of my special old pipes. I have a 10 pipe rotation but these seven were my Dad’s. They are from the 1950s, ‘60s and the one on the right might be from the early ‘70s. Three of these have probably been smoked about 10,000 times (I did the math on a previous thread). All have seen thousands of bowls in their lives except the one on the right. Dad gave me the five center ones 30 years ago; the outer two I found more recently while cleaning out his house (he passed away 15 years ago). They all smoke great, smell nice (I smoke a lot of cherry blends) and don’t show any indication of approaching the end of their useful smoking lives. Sure, there is a lot of stem chatter and dark rims – Dad and I both used/use these pipes outside and light with Zippos, but it really is amazing how long these little chunks of wood can last with a little care. The bent one is loaded up for today's walk with my dog.

I have two, the first two that I bought in the early 80's when I knew nothing about pipes. I came to the pipe via clove, and later, RYO cigarettes, mostly Drum or Gauloises. I had a friend who was older who smoked only PA in a Kirsten, every day, and I decided I wanted to join him on occasion. I went to the nearby shopping malls, each of which had a tobacco shop (remember those days?) and bought these two pipes along with either Flying Dutchman or Sail Aromatic and smoked with him at his home. I left town a few years later and left the pipes at my parents' house and didn't return for many years. I didn't return to the pipe until just a few years ago. When I did, I was glad for the choices I made so long ago. The Barling Londoner dublin was the first, and the Savinelli Punto Oro Mister G 404 zulu was the second. The Sav is one of my favorite smokers.
