So i was sitting in my kitchen late last night, thinking about past events, and I remembered this cigar shop off of Congress ave. in Austin TX well over 10 years ago and their contest titled "Show me your ash". Basically smokers sent in pictures with their cigars and the ash, and the sort of best ash got a free cigar. Looking over some pictures, and seeing some long ash sticks it made me ask the stupid question, where is my pipe ash? I mean, you put in three pinches of pipe tobacco into your bowl, and by the time you burn to the bottom of the bowl there is hardly any ash left, so ... what happened to the rest? Usually, and I hope I am not exaggerating, after lighting a cigar the ash is about 50% of the original stogie, where the percentage in a pipe is so much lower. Not that it truly matters ... Any thoughts on this?

Speaking for myself only, a bowl of pipe tobacco is packed much looser than any cigar I've ever smoked.

Furthermore, cigar ash remains in tact, giving it a large appearance, whereas pipe tobacco ash gets pulverized through the smoking process. I also agree with the above comments regarding quantity and tamping, which are also directly related to this comment.

Just to elaborate - mooning people at a party used to be a thing you and your friends would chuckle at. Now, everyone has a smartphone and my bare butt mooning my friends in the pool from the window was swiftly posted to Facebook.
