Looking for advice on storing tobacco. I rotate a few blends from the local shop but so far have just kept them in their plastic pouches they come in. I've been hesitant to buy more than a few ounces at a time only because I didn't know how well it keeps. But after reading Greg Pease's article Saving for a Rainy Day I see I have a new system to implement.
So aside from tins, glass seems to be the way to go. Are mason jars a decent option? Is there concern with how much room is left in a jar?
I've really come to enjoy the flavors of the blends I've been having regularly which is why I'm thinking this through so much. I just can't get over how well a good blend smokes and tastes and then lingers for awhile afterwards.

I recently got two 2oz packets of new zealand tobacco. they are both from the sixties, maybe earlier. and they are both ok. i did think it had mold on them, but after a few words of advice from here i realised they are sugar crystals. as they were both in cardboard packets it has a musty tinge to it. not that its bad just different. i think they would have both benefitted from a more airtight storage. So i have got a couple of old coffee jars and washed them good and am planning on buying more tobacco and see if i can store it, might be hard as i have a bit of an addictive personality :D

Paul gave the best suggestion, read those older threads and you will get a lot of very good information.
The one thing I will add is this, mason jars and bale top jars will become your best friends!
