So Dave gave me the bug to clean up a few old pipes I'd recently received. Now these are nothing at all like the restorations Dave performed, his work is awesome. I basically just deoxidized the stems and polished everything up a bit.
Here's the pipe lot I received this past week....not a great pic, but you can see some of the green/brown stems

Here's my favorite....my new smoker

And here are 5 after they've been shined up a bit

They really respond to some attention and elbow grease. They all look sound

and especially the briars have some classic shapes and finishes.

In the first picture... Is there a pipe shaped like a toilet?! 8O
Also, you did a really nice job cleaning those up.

Nicely done. That's a heaping dose of PAD. The cob on the right is wild looking. Great looking batch of pipes. Nice score!

@Mephistopheles....you guessed it my friend.....complete with working lid. Whoever owned it before me smoked the sh#% out of it (pun intended), cuz it's pretty nasty. I'd planned to display it, but it doesn't really fit in with the rest. As for the cob on the right that Dave mentioned, it's actually turned on a lathe from a small limb....still has a bit of the bark near the bottom and is stamped Stratsburg, PA Railroad....never smoked.

Nice work man, what did you use to deoxidize/clean up the stems?

8 hour soak in Oxi-Clean.....then a scrub with a paste made of Comet/water......then a buff with Tripoli......then a buff with White Diamond. Everything worked quite well, though the Voyageur stems still shows a very faint tan color in a few spots....another soak might be in order for that guy.

@plateauguy......now that you mention that, I remember seeing that online somewhere, I'll check it out. Stopped by our local tobacco shop this afternoon and asked if they had a bowl reamer....the guy looked at me like I had six heads, then paused and opened a drawer.....had a reamer set covered in dust $20. He said "it's been here for years, nobody ever asked for one"

Nice work. I especially like the cob on the bottom. It looks like a rare find.
