Did SG ever remedy the issue last year with their tins not sealing? I know they were forced to switch to a different manufacturer and they were hot gluing the lids on. Thanks for any input.

I have not had a problem with most SG tins, but then again, most of my tins are already a few years old.
I did have a major problem with their Limited Edition tobaccos. A few people already noted that those blends were meant to be smoked sooner than later and SG didn't take shelf life into account.

So far so good with their tins. The only ones I had which went a little pear shaped on me where the Hansom Cab tins which I didn't care about and the Brown Flake tins. I personally had no issues but one of tins I sent to Jim did pop open during transit. I think it is the tin gauge of the metal they are using for the tins which is nothing like the tins of years gone by. I have often wondered how the children of today are supposed to collect bugs and spiders without decent match boxes or solid tobacco tins. First world problems but hey ho!

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like they worked through their issues. I never had a problem before last year with their tins unsealing. I prefer SG tins over round ones.

I believe all of them were used for Hansom Flake only. At least as far as I know.

I’ve not had a problem with any other SG tin.
I know I had one with an open seal and that the only reason the lid was still attached was because it was glued to the cardboard insert. It wasn't Hansom because I haven't opened any tin of that yet. But I can't remember what it was because early onset Alzheimers you know . . .

Damn. I guess I didn’t order any other tins from them around that time. I usually get boxes anyways for the cost savings.

I remember now! It was a tin of Sam's Flake that I returned to the vendor.

I've had issues with G&H tins, but not SG. Probably same tins, so could be luck of the draw.

Solution: boxes only!

For scented Lakelands, I have a preference for tins over boxes. I think part of the reason for the "charming" inconsistency between batches of scented Kendal products, at least for boxed products, is that the distributor and, in particular, retailers may not store the boxes well, causing them to loose their toppings. As you all know, the leaf in the boxes and the boxes themselves are wrapped only in thin plastic. I'm pretty sure the distributors and retailers don't keep them the individual boxes in airtight containers.

It may be less of a concern these days when they sell out so quickly, but as @oldgeezersmoker informs us, this last batch of SG was shipped to the US in June 2020, so the boxes have been sitting in containers, warehouses and stockrooms for more than 6 months. I suspect that after 6 months, boxed Grousemoor will begin to taste different than tinned Grousemoor.

I do like how GH packages some of its blends in what appear to be mylar bags. I've less concerns about those losing their toppings.

The one bag I got from this shipment of GH, DVC, was heat sealed above the zip lock, so it should be OK for a good while
