They are both republic era Petes. The 317 band has the faux hallmarks, and the 313 just has the brand name. Both stummels are marked using the modern rendition of the P with the forked base as opposed to the typescript P. I’m assuming they are maybe from the 80s but that is just a wild guess. I’m not sure if anybody can give a better inclination of a rough date going by stamping on the nickel bands.Looks good. How old are these?
The 317 is pre-1963 as evidenced by the faux hallmarks on the nickel band.Looks good. How old are these?
Yeah I really like the smaller one (317), I think it is the smallest bowl they do. I think I would prefer the full bent stem though just so it tucks under the chin better.Nice! I have a Pete system pipe that looks very similar to the smaller one. The stem on mine has a much more pronounced bend.
Chur for the info brah. I hadn’t come across much info in regards to dating within the republic era, as most of my reading up was into the differences between pre-republic pipes. Do you have any further knowledge about the change in 1963?The 317 is pre-1963 as evidenced by the faux hallmarks on the nickel band.
i guess my p-lip just has a semi. Here’s how the bend should look:

They both came in quite good condition for estates. Just needed a really heavy clean each. The 313 had to be topped slightly and have the chamber sanded gently as a previous owner had attacked the cake with a nail file. Looks like I have to bend the stem on the 317 now too.Looking good.
Did they required a lot of care or just a good cleaning?
