Ok ok, I know, this is just monkey business, but you guys know me and the stuff I do, so don't beat me up too bad...
I've been pondering what to do with this old ruined Dunhill I got with some other pipes. Some of you have been following my saga of repairing the others, but this one presented some interesting options. The stem and shank weren't in that bad condition, but the bowl was not salvageable. I'd thought about getting a meerschaum bowl to graft in place, or making a nice tamper out of it, and a generous forum donated to me a couple of usable Dunny bowls that had no nomenclature left. Some how I couldn't bring myself to cut up a new pipe to to piece together another one. I don't know how I came to this idea, maybe seeing that Falcon cob here, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of using the shank and stem to make a custom cob. I bought a new MM Morgan, and used the shank and stem from the Dunhill to make a new pipe. I stained the whole bowl to match the shank, but it looked odd, no longer looking like a cob. So I antiqued it so to speak. This was a fun project that wasn't all that hard to pull off. Gonna stuff some Rum Flake in it to break it in tonight.

I know that Steve Laug from Reborn Pipes stuck a couple of Dunhill stems on some cobs and called them Dunhillbillies. This one doesn't look all that much like a hillbilly , but it's pretty far from a Dunhill at this point! I know it should have a name though, something other than "extremely rare patent era Dunhill Cob".

Man all you needed to do was top the ol girl and it would have been fine......but you've gone and ruined it now.....LOL.
It would be fun to list it on ebay and see what sort of interest you get on it. Joking but could be interesting.....

That is one of the best make-do I have seen in a long while... A Dunhill stem on a deep stained corn cob.. Genius..

A very fine "save"!
I think I have finally figured out how it got chopped up so- the previous owner lost it in the grass and then ran a lawn mower over it. Huh?

Thanks for all the positive remarks guys! I love playing with things like this, and for the record, it smokes great too!
Only one thing I can't figure out about the original pipe, and that is the year it was made. There is no number after the D in England. If it was 1950 wouldn't have a 0? Someone got any ideas?
