Ok ok, I know, this is just monkey business, but you guys know me and the stuff I do, so don't beat me up too bad...
I've been pondering what to do with this old ruined Dunhill I got with some other pipes. Some of you have been following my saga of repairing the others, but this one presented some interesting options. The stem and shank weren't in that bad condition, but the bowl was not salvageable. I'd thought about getting a meerschaum bowl to graft in place, or making a nice tamper out of it, and a generous forum donated to me a couple of usable Dunny bowls that had no nomenclature left. Some how I couldn't bring myself to cut up a new pipe to to piece together another one. I don't know how I came to this idea, maybe seeing that Falcon cob here, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of using the shank and stem to make a custom cob. I bought a new MM Morgan, and used the shank and stem from the Dunhill to make a new pipe. I stained the whole bowl to match the shank, but it looked odd, no longer looking like a cob. So I antiqued it so to speak. This was a fun project that wasn't all that hard to pull off. Gonna stuff some Rum Flake in it to break it in tonight.
