Though there is no mention directly to pipe tobacco we can be sure it will be included. Slowly but surely governments around the world are making out anyone who smokes tobacco by whatever means to be pariahs.
£24 or $US30 for a packet of cigarettes!

We're well past half way there for a tin of tobacco at many brick and mortar shops, and a third way online. In Europe mostly there already. It's a revenue stream. How can it be resisted?

It isn't about the money. The point is to eliminate the use of tobacco in the brave new world.

The brave new world doesn't care about our health or our childrens health. It's about the money.

Taxes = revenue
If everyone quit drinking, smoking and driving our governments would have to find new sources of easy revenue. They know we´re not about to give up these basic human needs.
Just do the math on % of real costs to tax inflated cost on tobacco, alcohol and gasoline.

We all need to start growing our own. Cant take that away. I already have 9 variations of VA ready to plant as soon as it gets warmer. I already played with whole leaf and rum. Needed to add a little sugar or honey to it which i will do next.

You gotta use newspeak. The point is to facilitate a new world free from danger. That's you, you fall under the classification of "danger" and need to be rehabilitated. Smoke up.

Orwell was a genius and I definetly agree with rx2man... and i might be a danger... and I probably need to be eliminated.

Self reliance is the only true liberty we have. I've advocated guerilla gardening and still hold the same position, do it. Toss seeds anywhere you think they'll grow.

Hi taxes and bans lead to the introduction of organized crime and smuggling. US states like New York actually lose money on the sale of cigarettes because of the need for added law enforcement and other expenses due to the black market they created. I think the right choice would be a modest tax most people could and would be willing to pay.

Yeah I read that in the morning as well. At least it is better than Russia proposing cigarette ban for anyone born after 2015.

"The average tin of pipe tobacco here in Toronto, Canada is TRIPLE the price of a pack of cigarettes."
But then a typical (50g) tin of tobacco will last most pipesters more than three days compared to a twenty a day cigarette smoker.

Jay.

News from Australia have been scary for years now. They were the first to introduce 'plain packaging' for tobacco products, an euphemism for intellectual property theft and plastering packages with medical porn and outright lies. Look at their online tobacconists, they're not even allowed to show cigars or pipe tobacco tins. 8O As for prices, they're 6-7 times more expensive than in Germany.

Don't know what can be done to reverse this madness.

Jay,
I agree completely. My complaint though is that our government taxes similar weights of tobacco differently

Between the Heart of Alabama and Hot Springs NC
Here in Alabama a pack of tax free cigarettes will run you about $3-4, and a tin of tobacco will run you about $8-12 online taxfree. Also a pack of cigarettes is approximately 15-20 grams, whereas a tin of tobacco is 50-100 grams.

Price by weight, pipe tobacco is cheaper.
Comparing the price of a tin to a pack of cigarettes is like comparing the price of a cookie to a cake.
