This is probably not news to veteran pipe guys (and gals) but it is something I think other newbies would want to be aware of. I have started using Savinelli 6mm balsa filters in pipes by Frank Medico and Dr. Grabow. I prefer the feel and taste of smoke using the balsa filter over the Medico or Grabow filters. Those paper tubes wrapped in plastic don't give a bad smoke and do remove a fair amount of moisture, but they really don't compare to the enjoyment I get using the Savinellis. One other thing, the paper filters are really only good for one smoke, while the Savinellis are good for at least three or four, so the superior filter actually ends up costing less. Anyway, food for thought.

I like to use them in my filter pipes, it reduces toungue bite for me. You can find them on Ebay

at a reduced price ( less than .10 each ).

Just got a new Savinelli and the first thing I did was toss the filter and the adapter. I'm going to try the balsa filters today to see if they really make a difference for me.
