Savinelli "Fiammata 2" Question

I almost remember, old age stinks, that pipes with Fiammata 2 and a Sav shape number Italy are in fact not Savinelli seconds, but a very high grade designated piece of briar. The story went that these blocks passed the many eye tests and initial boring tests to progress to high grade status. It was only later during shaping that a flaw was found and they were then sent off to be simply stamped Fiammata on one side and the normal stamping on the other.

Can anyone confirm or deny this story? Share any insights or plausability?
