I was ordering some tobacco from my preferred vendor when I noticed a Duca Carlo that looked quite nice - especially for the price. I purchase all my pipe products from this vendor - and have bought a number of their new and estate pipes. This pipe was described as "smoked, but rather clean" (you can probably guess the vendor). I figured for less than $38 it was worth a try.
I'm more than pleasantly surprised by the quality - both in terms of fit and finish and how well it smokes. I'd guess it maybe had two or three previous smokes at most, and a couple very small dings in the briar. And yet the Savinelli quality shows through even on this inexpensive line - no fills from what I can see, nice lines, passes a pipe cleaner, etc. It may not have the grain you'd see on a more expensive pipe, but this is certainly a marque that I'd have no concern buying another if I see one. And best of all, it smokes like a champ.

That's real nice and I like the shape a lot. Looks to me like you got a great deal. I have about 10 Savs and everyone of them smokes well. I'm sure this one will give you many years of pleasure. happy smoke rings.

Very nice indeed. For that price it was definitely a good deal. It's a great looking pipe.

This is my third Savinelli (all from the same vendor). All top notch quality for the price, all pass a pipe cleaner, all smoke great, and all look fantastic. Based on recommendations on the Forum, Savs were my first new pipe purchases (other than a Doctor Grabow), and unless you happen to get a dud (I imagine it can happen with any marque), this company knows how to maintain a great balance of quality and price.

It has always impressed me what good smoking pipes you can buy at the low end price-wise. You have to

know what you're doing, know about about the brands and what they offer and don't, but if you do your

homework, you can get more pipe than you might at three times the price without the knowhow. That's

a nicely proportioned little briar, and I like its apple shape and tapered stem.

One of my favorite pipes is a Savinelli Duca Carlo that I bought when I first took up the pipe. They are a great value. The break in was rough but it's now one of my best smokers even amongst my high grades.
