Anyone have information on the “Dry” line of pipes? As near as I can tell it just accepts a 6mm balsa filter, but so do many others. What’s the deal with this design?

I had a Dry 904 that featured no well and had a fishtail stem. The only difference between it and any other filtered 904 was the "Dry" stamp. They came out in the early ’80s (probably 1981 or so) and do use a balsa filter and have a small trap that collects moisture. This Savinelli Punto Oro Oom Paul 2604 has a stem with a pseudo P-lip and moisture trap. I would say it’s kind of a blatant rip-off of a system pipe.

Looks more like a Glokar bit than a P-Lip.
They've all copied it at some point. Even Grabow's Omega.Never bothered to examine a Glokar—it would appear that’s what it is—I just thought of the Savinelli one as a fake P-Lip.
Glokar was a very early copy of the p-lip but it did differ a bit. This looks like a direct copy of that to me. The slot and the scalloped bottom, are dead ringer for Glokar.Never bothered to examine a Glokar—it would appear that’s what it is—I just thought of the Savinelli one as a fake P-Lip.
That seems to be the case with mine too, no well and a normal fishtail stem. Nice enough pipe but just seems like any other 613 style Savinelli. It is a very nice “Dry” stamp.I had a Dry 904 that featured no well and had a fishtail stem. The only difference between it and any other filtered 904 was the "Dry" stamp.
The Grabow Omega has no well and the hole on the button is in the center of the P-Lip, like a regular stem. It’s terrible. You cannot clench that pipe without clogging the hole with your tongue. They've all copied it at some point. Even Grabow's Omega.
True. This certainly highlights how astounding it is, what passes for "fortunate" in this day and age.Suppose I’m fortunate I didn’t get one randomly stamped “Fart” or “Moist” or something worse.
My comment was referring to the stem design only. The Grabow Omega has no well
Why would the tongue be anywhere in contact with the stem of any pipe? You cannot clench that pipe without clogging the hole with your tongue
the box is the same place farts come from. That's my serious answer.True. This certainly highlights how astounding it is, what passes for "fortunate" in this day and age.
Edit: I need to put "fart emoji" in the suggestion box. Does anyone know where that box is? Serious answers only, please...
I thought they stopped using the 4 digit code in the 70s ??? That maybe a pre-New System Pipe or old system which did not have the moisture trap. ??? By the way if you go to the Savinelli site they have instructions on how to smoke a pipe :
How to Smoke a Pipe | Savinelli
Discover how to smoke a pipe. Savinelli has created a guide for those new to Slow Smoking, listing some "rules" and advice that...www.savinelli.it
I should think though that the first step would be to put tobacco into it !!
