I was cruising around the internet looking for info on Gran Prix Savinelli pipes and I came across this info about their pipes put out under different brand names.

One time I was looking at Ebay and saw a listing for a pristine "FatBoy" pipe going for less than $5. I laughed, stuck up my nose, saying who would want a pipe named FatBoy?. Now I find out that "FatBoy" is made by Savinelli.

Savinelli puts out their 2ed's under different brand names, they are. Albatross---Bent Bob's-------Baronet-----Coronet------Duca---=-Hercules----Borkum Riff.

On Ebay right now there is a Borkum Riff, one of a kind, special edition, new in the box. If it were a Savinelli it would be an autograph 5, or6,or 7. A $1000 pipe. Because it is put out by Borkum Riff, it is going for MUCH, MUCH less.

Here is a list of other brand names that they sell under.- Erica Flamma---Molinella-Oldenkott---- Estar----Estrella----Extra----FatBoy---Flammata---Gandale------Guibileo D'Oro------Gold----Goliath----King's Cross----Marxman----Le Milano----Leonardo-----Linea----Linea Artisan----Long John.

I keep this list next to my computer so that I'll be able to buy my first, made by Savinelli for peanuts.

I knew a couple of those spud; thanks for the additional info. I never would have guessed Borkum Riff though. I can't stand the pipe tobacco, but I love my Sav pipe.

I got 3 Savinelli Giubileo D'Oros new from a European pipe shop. It is a discontinued model, but they still make a few. Simple classical shapes in extraordinary briar. They are my best pipes. It seems that only certain dealers are able to pick them out and buy them. I have noticed that Savinelli & Dunhill send their best pipes to dealers who were in business when they started making pipes.

This is not totally correct. Most of these listed above are lines of pipes within the Savinelli pipe family. They are marketed/stamped as Savinelli's. They are NOT a brand name used to differentiate them from the Savinelli name. For example Erica Flamma, Estrella, Guibileo D'Oro, Leonardo da Vinci, etc.
Welcome to the forum also!!!

I think some of the Iwan Ries Exclusives at the Iwan Ries web site are made by Savenelli these days. Most are made

by Benton, and these are also good pipes. My wife gave me an Iwan Ries for Christmas, a full bent billiard with extra

large bowl, and I believe it is a Savenelli. Also, you can get unfinished Savenellis at excellent prices at Tobaccopipes.com

and Cup O Joes. The whole Savenelli line has excellent drilling and smoking characteristics. I hate to play my old tape,

but I have two Savenelli unfinished pipes that I bought 30 years ago, and they smoke as well as anything, still. Italian pipes

seem to have the edge, though I love my Petersons, Johs, Bentons, etc.

Thank you for the kind replys to this post. I was reluctant to post this because I was afraid that I would be flamed by members with more knowledge than me.

No flaming here!!!! Glad that you had the courage!! The most important thing to remember is that we all have opinions. You don't have to agree with them. It's the discussions that entail that provide the most info... Enjoy the site!!!

On our sponsor "La Casa Delia Pipa", they have a refurbished, billard, meerschaum lined, beautiful, "Gold" which is a Sav.. for $34. I would love to own it but it is a little more than I can pay. It is Goregous!

My last purchase was a Sav author, I love it...
I cannot see the work "Albatross" without thinking about a Monty Python skit.
