Maybe a dumb question but what the heck, wanted to get some opinions from the Pipe community on Satou pipes and other fine craftsmen that have passed on. Do most folks think that after a Artisan pipe maker passes on ,their pipes become more valuable (sorta like the same with paintings, other art work, etc)?

Well they ain't making any more after they pass away. So, the supply is finite.

However not all artisanal pipes command the same demand/price.
And some artisans fade into obscurity once out of public view.

The marketplace is the arbiter.

Depends on the prestige, collector market and numerous other things.

Other types of artwork don't always become more valuable, even if the maker isn't obscure. And sometimes any increase in value is only temporary or only for certain works but not others.
