I was watching this one with interest last night (only a spectator!). Specially Selected 8 Dots don't come along very often, and this one was sold by Coopersark. I was kind of surprised that it stayed under $400.

My very casual observation of pipe sales is that prices have been soft ever since the frenzy over the clumsy FDA Deeming rules started. I myself have been substituting PAD for TAD.

Even though this "Specially Selected" is a 1980's homage to the original line of pipes that were personally selected by Joel Sasieni, that price does seem a bit low. The post transition reissues, like this one, or the reissued 8 dots, don't see the same prices as the pre-war pipes, except when they are mistaken for a pre-war Sasieni.
Also, this may be a soft period for pipe sales, as more hoarders focus on tobacco. We already have a nascent market in "collectible" tobacco. People are stocking up to profit down the road.

The square shank/stem Dublin idea caught my eye. I have a very different version with the same idea from Ser Jacopo with a less tapered bowl, but slighty bent with what SP described as a sinuous shank/stem (slight S curve).

That run of commemorative eight dots was actually made in France. That, plus all being freehands (which clashed with Sasieni's strong Brit tradition), kept collectors from being strongly interested from the beginning. Their price has always been low.
Did you save the blue string and certificate/tag? Or was it already gone?

Here's the last one that I saw on Ebay, this one was unsmoked, with wax string seal intact.

Cool. I've seen maybe 20 of those over the years (there were always a few at shows in the 80's & early 90's), and that's the best one.
Do you recall how much it went for?
