I'm supposed to be saving my PAD funds for Richmond, but Mike G and now Dave Neeb keep testing my will power. Dave posted this Sasieni Four Dot "Grosvenor" Walnut bulldog yesterday. I held out until today, when I noticed it was discounted 15% and my willpower melted.
This is my first Sasieni. I know from Stephen Smiths article on Dating Sasieni's, that it was made before 1979. Any Sasieni experts out there care to offer more? (after '79, they dropped the town names but retained "Four Dot" stamping).

Nice Sasieni. I have a 4 dot Walnut as well, only the much less collectible post '86 version. That should be a great smoke!
That Smith article was of great help to me when I picked mine up.

Here's the Stephen Smith article if anyone is interested:

I see via the web, some "Four Dot" (and no patent number) that are stamped

"Made in London England"
Mine is stamped simply "Made In England".
Is that of any dating significance?

Yes, I believe the football shaped "Made in England" indicates a family era pipe especially with that Sasieni stamp. EDIT: It could also indicate a transition pipe.

I couldn't be happier for you, Al.
You've got a quality chunk of briar that is almost 35 retail years old and Lord knows how many "curing" years. It's a beautiful bent Rhodesian - although not as chunky as your favorites - but I'm sure you'll love it.
You've had a good day, pal.
