I have a Lorenzo with a very similar looking rustication. There were a couple few Italian manufacturers that rusticated this way, maybe to try and emulate the Castello sea rock?

Sandblast patterns approximate the underlying grain, so if you see patterns that are clearly not those of a grain, they are carved and/or rustication. Some blast is deep and distinct, and I think that is considered the most desirable, but lighter blast can be clear and intricate and extremely pleasing to my eye too. As everyone has pointed out, this is clearly rusticated.

Interesting texture that certainly holds its own. I'd like mine in the toaster for a wee bit longer just to emphasize the contrast and highlight the depth of the carve.
