Upon opening the tin you are greeted with dark brown bordering on black 1 inch wide strips of flake. The tobacco is moist and very pungent. It smells of figs, honey and other dried fruits. I break up the flakes with my fingers into small chunks and let it dry out for a couple of hours to get the correct burn. Once lit the flavors just come screaming out. It is sweet and spicy from the generous amount of perique. If you are worried that it has the Lakeland essence do not, it has none. It just gets sweeter and fuller the more you smoke and the nose from the perique is wonderful. This stuff never bites, the only worry you might have is that it tastes so good, you might find yourself heating up your bowl from smoking it too hard. This blend is every bit as good as my beloved Escudo and when it can be found, you can buy it buy the pound. If you are a Vaper fan, this is a must try.

+1 Well said cigrmaster. I recently tried St. James flake and Escudo each for the first time and they are now among my top favorites.

jameral, glad you are enjoying them. I think those two are the best Vapers flakes on the market today. Another classic vaper that you should try is GL Pease Haddo's Delight, it is balls to the walls perique with incredible nose to it.

Funny you should mention that. I recently did open up a tin of Haddo's and it really didn't do anything for me, so into a mason jar it went. The next vaper I'm gonna try is C&D Sunday Picnic.

Thank you. I cant wait to try it. I have some Dunhill Flake and McConnell scotish cake in the mail now, but Samuel Gawith St James Flake, is definitely at the top of my next order!

Thanks for the review. This is in the top three of my regular blends. St. James Plug is also very good, essentially the flake before it is cut up. Very deep, rich flavor. Like the flake but on flavor steroids.

I rather disliked the stuff the first few times I tried it, but now it is the first thing I reach for.
