First this is my first review hopefully you get somthing out of it.
As described: A rich and comforting blend of dark Virginias, with a touch of Latakia, Bothy Flake is the epitome of the "rainy day smoke." The sweetness of the Virginias is balanced out by smokiness of the Latakia and subtly peaty scotch top note for one unique, pressed, flake tobacco.
Pipe used: Ser Jacopo bent bulldog.
Packing Method: Fold and stuff also rubbed half a flake out to top off to get a good light.
Moisture level: It was pretty moist however not as bad as other Samuel Gawith. I let the flake dry out for about 20 minutes, I recommend a tad bit longer though.
The initial light did not wow me. I love the initial light as I generally get a good amount of flavor. With this blend that did not happen, I do not consider this a bad thing it's just the flavor did not explode like other blends. A light draw is a must with this. After getting a smooth rhythm down the flavor notes began to reveal themselves. I definitely got a sweet fruity flavor which was prominent at the beginning of a draw. The flavor was reminiscent of a blueberry, not that it tasted like one though, but it reminded me of a berry without the overwhelming tartness to it if that makes sense. The Latikia seemed present only at the end of the draw. I found this rather interesting. It seemed to add a slight creamy taste to the Virginia. Like the description says it is unique. The further down the bowl I got, the smoother the smoke was. A spicy note was present when retrohailing which was not there if I didn't do.
Other significant notes: The smoke was always cool. Even though I do not believe I let it dry long enough, it required very few relights. It burned very well and I was able to tamp the flake as I smoked which I am not use to. Little to no moisture at the end of the bowl however there was some dottle. The nicotine seemed moderate and became more present at the half way mark. I do not feel this is an overwhelmingly strong flake but enough to definitely relax.
This has instantly became a favorite of mine and is easily now in my top 10. I consider this an all day smoke. I would definitely recommend trying this blend. If you are new to flakes I would also try this out as it was considerably easy to smoke.
