Yesterday I received a tin GH Bob's Chocolate Flake with the same code. Let me know when you figure it out. :nana:

01 273 is August 1st of 2018. First 2 digits is the date of the month. To make it easy 273 is August of 2018..

I would love to see a permanent topic on how to read the code/production date for the various pipe tobacco's that are produced. Who can I lobby for that?!

I missed it by 1 month. It seems simple enough. Am I that dumb?

Here's the formula I have in Google Sheets:

=edate("12/1/1995",mod(H3,1000))
H3 is a cell containing the date code from the tin.

so if you plug that formula in google sheets does it figure date automatically? that would be nice.

Doing the calculations in one's head should be a heck of an exercise to keep the mind sharp; like converting pennies to pounds sterling before decimal.
RE: Rust: I got a tin of MB's Vanilla Cream to-day and it had similar rust on the rim. I think this is normal. I've seen other tins sporting it too, and no problem with the tobacco inside. This tin of MB is from March AD 2018.
