I have read about this before, but I have never experienced it so profoundly.
There are times that a tobacco will taste different and even provide a different smoking experience.
I think many of us have experienced this. There are many variables that can effect your smoking experience.
The time of day, the mood you are in, what you are doing (relaxing, or working), the pipe, how clean the pipe is. More could probably be added to this.
Sometimes when I am working, I puff too hard if I am stressed with a deadline or something, and I foul up my smoking experience.
There is also the shape of the pipe.
There was another thread where I think sinistertopiary talked about how different shapes work better with different tobaccos. He has done a couple of blog posts about it actually.
I acquired some Nat Sherman tobacco when I was in New York shooting videos last month.
It is an English Blend named Tabac Sherman # 536 - Empire English.
I have loved this tobacco from the start. I have smoked it in at least 8 different pipes and enjoy it every time.
As a side story to this, I just bought two more Charatan pipes to add to the 3 I got myself for Christmas. That way I meet the minimum to get into the International Charatan Collectors Society.
(Info on the Charatan Club here: http://pipesmagazine.com/blog/pipe-collecting/international-charatan-collectors-society/ )
I just filled one of the new new Charatans with Tabac Sherman # 536, and holy crap it is amazing!
It is soooo tasty!
This is going to sound weird, but it tastes like Thanksgiving Dinner - turkey, stuffing and gravy.
(Reminds me of the Willy Wonka Candy that Violet ate.)
The shape of the pipe is a Chimney (slightly bent). It has a very tall bowl.
