I was doing a little canoeing and fishing in the ocean this weekend. Everything was great and the fish were hitting. With impeccable placement of a paddle and my knee slapping against it, I managed to catapult my pipe into the water.
I thought for sure I was going to watch it sink a hundred metres to Davy's locker, but she floated! Stem down, it just bobbed there until I could manoeuvre over and pick it up.
It had a half bowl Six Pence in it. No idea if that helped.
The next bowl was a touch briny, but it smoked well. It was a Sara Eltang lovat shape. I've not tried to see if the rest of my pipes float, empty or not. I hope not to repeat it too many times, but I was surprised. I guess I assumed wood would float, as it should, but the ratio of stem to briar may be important.
Anyone else end up with their pipe in the drink and managed to fish it out?
