I haven't really heard much discussion about either one of these blends and have been acquiring a taste for more mild pouch type tobaccos lately (Middleton's Apple, Carter Hall, Captain Black Royal, Half and Half) and was curious what you guys thought of these blends? Not very expensive, so if I don't like them I'm not out much. What are you guys' opinions? I threw a pouch of each into my latest order so I will give my opinion on them when I get them (and when I kick this damn chest cold)

I love both of these blends -- typical, unpretentious Danish cavendish-cut blends. Sort of a hip pocket all day smoke.

Sail Yellow is quite mild, and I like it better as an anytime/don't think about it smoke; but Troost, though tastier because

of a slight flavoring -- call it a weak aromatic -- and some dark-fired leaf, can be smoked continuously too.

Here's a link to my review of Troost.

but it’s a satisfying and comforting smoke: reliable and predictable."
This is EXACTLY the sort of tobacco I was looking for, something that I can keep 6 or 7 pouches of (provided that I can't get it in a can), something that I can stock up on and smoke in between more high end boutique blends. I was looking for something, as I said, like a Carter Hall, Half and Half, 1Q, or even Butternut Burley, those kind of light aromatics that are simple, burn well, and have a mild taste. Sounds like I made a good choice.

05venturer, whenever you get your pouches we might have to compare tasting notes.

one is smoking air, one actually has taste
This is the way I feel about the regular Captain Black White tobacco, though there are a lot of people around here that keep the stuff on hand all the time. I prefer the Royal version because I think it tastes and burns a lot better, but I know some people who hate the Royal. Different smokes for different folks I guess.

I smoked a lot of both of these, back in the days when they were easily found, and enjoyed 'em. I have revisited both within the past 5 years. Sail Yellow has a touch of Oriental leaf (Sail Green is lightly topped and has a touch of latakia). If I was in the market for a smoke-it-all-day blend, I would consider these before I considered CH or PA.

Roth: Macanudos must have changed. I haven't tried one in a good 50 years, but they used to have a distinctive taste.
