I had a lunchtime Indian meal at a restaurant a couple of years ago, and I thought there was a lot of saffron in it.
I spent that afternoon curled up on the bed.
Felt absolutely terrible.

Safforn is expensive because it's very labor intensive to pick and also takes a lot of land to make that small amount. Not only is it potentially toxic it also gets you high (but that's not really done because well look at the price of the stuff), some science people suggest it's very possible that peoples enjoyment and desire to use the spice has less to do with taste and more to do with subtle effects it has internally. Never really cared much for the stuff one way or the other to be honest.
