A few years ago an acquaintance of mine got his hands on a corncob. It was the first and last time I have ever seen a bonfire in a pipe bowl.He claimed he enjoyed it as he drew in like a hoover vacuum cleaner.Never seen him with a pipe again.

Has anyone else experienced this when they first started smoking a pipe?

You have given him some pointers. I had an experience with a pipe before but it was so pathetic that I just consider it as a lapse in time ;)

I had a guy pick my meer pipe up off the bar at the Legion to look at it, all was fine until he started tapping it on the bar. I thought I was going to l9ose my mind.

I watched a fellow walk into a local shop buy a nice Peterson, loaded it full of Irish Flake and then lit it with a cigar torch!

The saddest experience I've ever seen was me dropping a new meer out of my mouth onto concrete. Snapped the shank at the bowl. I don't clench any more.

I don't know anyone who has ever hoovered a pipe but the worst pipe experience has to be with my Great Grandpa Oops. Oops was his nick name. He was a trainee on a landing mast at Lakehurst. He decided to celebrate his first zeppelin landing assignment by taking up the pipe. He apparently had a good bowl going, what with the breezes as they are at 300 feet. When the zeppelin was landing and as he was reaching for the mooring line, the pipe fell out of his mouth and landed on fuel cell #4 of the ship. A few moments later, the whole thing went up in flames. From that day on, Granpa Oops wouldn't let anyone in our family ride in Zeppelins or smoke pipes. Grampa was kind of a shit like that.

The sad thing is, hauntedmyst, I ALMOST believed you until but then I remembered you were the one telling the story, so a quick wiki search.... Yep. That would be the Hindenberg disaster... Good one, though!
