I've lost a lot of loved ones in my time, like most people. Today our community was hit pretty hard. The family that moved in next door has to boys, 1&1/2 & 3 yrs old. About noon today the two of them snuck out, and the youngest fell off the retaining wall into the water and didn't survive. I don't know a death that's rattled me quite like this.

I'll try to find a news paper article to post soon.

Very sad.

Nothing is as sad as the loss of a child. Hope the family is doing as well as can be expected, they will be in me and my families prayers....

I have no words at the moment. Aside from being sad at the loss of life, before life has really had a chance to begin, I find myself becoming angry and looking for someone to blame. For now, I reckon that is all I can say.

Its really sad. They spent almost all weekend at our house, Truitt, the youngest, hung out with me while I BBQ'd, I'm pretty sure his jabbering mentioned I was doing something wrong. Then he climbed on my Labrador tried to ride him...we've all gotten pretty close.

The family is in my prayers, such a horrible thing to happen. Words cant do it justice to how horrible this is. Makes me sick to my stomach.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. They keep coming over here like I should have some infinite wisdom...I don't know what to say. The best I've done is hug her, shake his hand and tellem the doors open. I don't know if there's anything I could say even.

Nope... Just being there when they wanna talk... Or even not talk and just not be alone... It's sometimes all they need. The fact you open the door and that they're welcome is huge already. And they'll need a lot more of that in months to come.

It's always the worst when a young child is involved. My thoughts are with him, his family, and your family. Its hard to wrap your head around an unexpected loss of life but just do what you can to be there for them.

Chris:
Mick nailed it. The parents obviously find strength or solace or a safe harbor in your presence and that alone is a badge of honor. They'll need to cry or possibly rail against God as they work through their grief. Just be a strong arm for them and be a good listener as well.
No words will ever alleviate the soul-killing pain they're experiencing and while you might not want the job, you represent a rock wall right now that they need to lean against. Don't feel like you have to say a damned thing, Chris. Be there. That's all they'll really need from you during the dark days ahead.
In the meantime, I will pray for that little boy's soul and I will pray for his family and I will pray for you and yours, friend.
