The rustic finish on my Radice pipe is flaking off around the rim. What can I do about this?

If it's new, return it. If you've had it a few years then maybe a pipe repair man can do something. A picture will help us assess the situation.

Even if it is a few years old, I think Radice might want to restore the pipe, unless it is conspicuous hard use

that has caused the damage. But if the pipe has been well maintained, I think the Radice people would rather

make it right. I think there is a lot of pride with pipe makers, especially those that don't mass produce pipes.

I purchased the pipe from sp.com a few weeks ago. I hope they make good on this defective pipe.

I believe it's a rind bent brandy with silver military mount. Did the area in question get charred by a lighter before the problem occurred? That is the only scenario I can imagine that steps would not be taken to resolve the issue.

I'm smoking my Rind as I type this and while looking at my pipe I would think that the only way to hurt the top of the bowl to that extent is by using a torch lighter, which is never a good idea to me.

SP has wonderful customer service, they should fix the issue. Give them a call and explain.

That to me is the side of the bowl more than the rim. Very odd, did it rub up against something? It's hard to understand how rusticated wood would or stain could come off like that. Definitely contact SP about the issue.

SP tells me the rustic finish is carved onto the pipe. So I wonder what can cause this? Could it be the stain is coming off? But then would not the stain fade?

I sent the pipe back for them to examine. I did not try to scrub it off thinking that I may damage my expensive pipe. But maybe I should if it comes back that way. We shall see how good the customer support is by SP.
