I got my Orlik golden sliced tobacco last year. I know many people have the tongue bite experiences when smoking this stuff. So, I added a cup of rum on it yesterday to see if it will get better. Has anyone ever done like this? I wonder if it will change the tobacco’s flavor and make it more sweet and smooth. Thanks!

I've done this with home grown tobacco, don't know what quantities you're talking about, but for 50g I wouldn't put more than a teaspoon. My experience is that it'll need plenty of drying afterwards, and the rum will come through in the retrohale similar to how rum smells from the bottle, not necessarily sweeter or smoother.

What rum is that?
Sounds fantastic from the label.

I'm worried about the sheer amount of alcohol in a cups worth, but as you said if left for 2-3 years and see what happens.
Like Karam mentions I would have started with a teaspoon but it's your experiment, your tobacco; will be interesting to see what happens at the end.

Don't mean to sound pessimistic, after all it's your' s to do what you want with.

I bought the rum from Costco with a low price, but high quality. It’s delicious! Hoping my tobacco is going well.

I have also used it with home grown, and more like a teaspoon for me as well. I like what I think it adds to the smoke, but my methods are far from systematic and organised....I have no real proof that the rum is doing something in particular.

Hmm, I am not sure that adding alcahol steam to the mix will help the bite.
Shouldn't be discernible levels of alcohol after drying it properly. In practice as you know from your own homegrown you need to dry the hell out of it to be even remotely smokable. A cup of rum would do for a pound of tobacco, and it would still be sopping wet.

I found that rum-infused leaf is quite nice, both commercial (Motzek Micha's cake) and my own homegrown. It leaves a fresh, fruity and somewhat spicy sweet aftertaste. Then there' Haddo's which for me had NO taste.
