I like these bits on some stems. One word of caution, be careful with vulcanite stems. The bits will probably create oxidation.
Even if they don’t oxidize under, they will create an area that won’t match the rest of the stem on vulcanite and Cumberland. I’ve got a beautiful pipe that has a two tone Cumberland stem from PO’s use of them that will have to be power buffed out some day…

I like them because I tend to keep the pipe in my mouth for quite a while while smoking. Without a rubber band, it would be very uncomfortable, and biting without a rubber band would ruin the material.IMG_7823.jpgIMG_2199.jpg

I use them all the time.

I much prefer the silicone ones - choice of 2 sizes and they come in black or white.

Saliva can collect under them - that’s the cause of the oxidation if you have a vulcanite stem.

I remove them after each smoke and wipe down the stem

Absolutely no problems

I tried a while so many years ago. It was a waste of time for me.

To much hassle taking them off every ime to clean. I just learned to hold in hand, take a puff, take pipe away from mouth.

Seems they dont help with drooling issues.
