When I look at all of the models of the Rossi Pipes, I can't help but think that they are EXACTLY the same models of the Savinelli classic lines, just rebranded under the Rossi nomenclature. Am I missing something? Are the Rossi models identical? Are the Rossi models seconds? Can someone explain to me the difference in models (not withstanding the history...I get the history, but why bother with another rebranding of the same pipe?). Sure the names may be different (as well as style), but are they not just different styles of the same model number?

Example:

Are these not both model 310?

The difference being that Savinelli does different variations of the 310 (Sistina, Hercules etc etc), but why does Rossi get to use the same model system?

I've clicked through Savenelli and Rossi pipes at online retailers, but I didn't catch the similarity or

duplication. My memory is that Rossi pipes are a step or two less in price than Savenelli, but Savenelli has

such a wide range, that may not be true. Can you save money buying the Rossi's?
I've gone through the same sort of study of Dunhill pipes versus their owned subsidaries Parker

and Hardcastle -- and perhaps Britannia. From the bowl shapes, I've concluded that any "seconding"

aspect has to come with the raw materials because the pipes in the lower price points in no way

resemble Dunhills, as near as I can tell. I don't own a Hardcastle, but the Britannia and Parker that

I own are each nicely crafted and notably lightweight. They're not Dunhill's for sure, but they are

good pipes, but not seconds, I wouldn't say.

In addition to the possibility of price, a major difference between the two is that Rossi bowls always seem to be coated. I prefer an uncoated bowl on a new pipe, so I avoid them.

I have noticed now that SP is now listing the model numbers as following:

A Savinelli 310

A Rossi 8310
So, to sum it up, all of the Rossi models are the same models of the Savinellis, but I have yet to discover if it is the same briar quality or same craftsmanship quality.
