Being relatively new to the Hobby I was so excited when I learned of blend your own on pipes and cigars.com. Of course the FDA ruling is killing that so i decided to order my own blend just to give it a try. I called it "sweet whiskey" equal parts red virginia, lqtakia, whiskey and maple. I hope to make a few more before year ends and would love to see what you guys have created

Why won't you be able to do the same thing down the road? You may have to blend it yourself, but maybe not.

I just meant the offering from Pipes & Tobacco I really respect the old fashioned aspect of that and I was just wanting to start a conversation

I have a few My Own Blends at Pipesandcigars. My favorite is one I call Valley Of Dragons. Yellow virginia, black cavendish, dark fired kentucky, and latakia. I find it very enjoyable.

I think I'll make some notes on the constituent tobaccos of some of my likely-to-discontinue blends and see what I can do to approximate them with blending leaf. This isn't going to make me G.L. Pease or Russ O. But it is a way to not feel completely dispossessed. Likewise, maybe I can doctor some of the pre-2007 blends that are still available. Russ has said he'd make some recipes available. Maybe a recipe book would be a money maker for him. Still, these are/were the glory days when advanced blenders had free reign.

Very interesting MSO, I am quite the noobie when it comes to this, but Russ did great videos teaching the differences in tobacco and the site was fun and easy to use to make the blend. I also think it will be a cool thing for all pipers to try their own hand at blending when these new laws come into place (trying to see a silver lining)

Whole Leaf Tobacco has a good variety of tobaccos for wannabee blenders. You can make your own Perique as well as Cavendish very easily. The sticking point will be getting a good shredder. Whole Leaf Tobacco sells some good ones. The Gabej ( I think only available from Europe) is another good one. The only downside to all these shredders is that the shred is .8mm which is more of a cigarette cut. I had a guy in Poland make me two shredders with 1.6mm cut which is perfect for pipe tobacco.

Jitterbug, very interesting. I would think that would be enjoyable if you had the correct tools, I enjoy sitting in the basement where I store my tobacco and just smelling it and storing them in my jars etc.
