My wife saw him perform for a smaller audience at the Woodstock museum in NY and

he was a good and affirming soul in person as he was in big venues. His improvisational

performance at Woodstock when he was given time when other performers hadn't yet

shown up is one of the inspirational moments in rock history.

I saw the last part of his set at the Detroit Jazz Festival a few years back. Great stuff.
