If you like Latakia as a condiment this isn't for you. If you like a Latakia blend that is complex this isn't for you. If you unashamedly like Latakia, want to marry it and have love babies with it, this is a blend for you. This is a very straight forward blend. The Latakia dominates the whole smoke from beginning to end. I got a tiny bit of sourness some place in the middle, and I attribute that to the other tobaccos in the blend, but it went away rather quickly. This was a no-fuss light and go blend for me. It smoked well, and is a great smoke for those who want a good bit of flavor and not a whole lot of surprise. After a few bowls and an attempt at coaxing other flavors out of this I have decided that it is what it is, an unapologetic lat-bomb. Don't pass this one up because some, including myself, say its one sided and simple. I find often that simple wins, and it does so here.

Very good review. Only thing I would add this is NOT an indoor blend for me, due to the lingering acrid, rotten cheese room note .....

I like PK in small doses. Unfortunately halfway through the bowl it often goes bitter on me. I find this to be a common trait with most C and D blends.

I love PK for all the same reasons. But one curiosity: PK does not DGT well. Like trying to relight a cigar a few days later. Must be the absence of sweet Virginias?

If you are unfamiliar with the term Delayed Gratification Technique, or DGT, it is simply this: light your pipe and smoke part of it, but leave at least half a bowl unsmoked (in my opinion). Then put it down, allow it to go out, and re-light it again some time later. FYI...

That's the way I feel about Semois as a burley. It's a burley, the whole burley, and nothing but the burley. I've always

enjoyed Latakia as blended with other leaf, even in Latakia forward blends like Nightcap. I really like Cornell & Diehl

blends, and after your review, I'll keep this on the list for the future. Sometimes the unvarnished leaf is as good as it gets,

whether the leaf is burley or Latakia.

Good review texmex. I first tried Pirate Kake as a half oz sample from SPC. I always have some on hand now, I love it. I've seen it get some 1 star reviews because it's "one dimensional". Well...yeah, that's what it does. Don't know what those reviewers were expecting from a blend that is 75% lat.
