I started off with a drilled but unshaped block and rod from Mark Tinsky.

After cutting out the rough shape and about an hour's worth of sanding:

After more shaping and the initial cuts to the stem:

More shaping and sanding to the stem. It's amazing how much time it takes just to shape the button!

After the initial sand blasting:

Another hour of sandblasting and sanding the bit:

That is absolutely phenomenal! You should be very proud! Anybody would be happy to own a pipe like that,

and you have the eternal satisfaction that comes from making it yourself.

That is a great looking piece of work. If it smokes half as good as it looks it'll be fantastic.

Wow, great job! That's a good looking pipe...obviously a rewarding experience to participate in the seminar. Let us know how it smokes.

Awesome pipe!
Maybe I'll have to do that next year, I think. Were you able to just show up to the seminar and buy the pipe block and rod there, already pre-drilled?

Arinbjorn, you're provided a predrilled block with a finished stem, but I brought an extra with an unfinished stem with me. Which is a good thing because I mangled the first block.

Did you actually have a sandblasting machine? I'm very envious.
It turned out really nice.

Juni,
Yes there was a sandblaster at the seminar but I think it was either on the fritz or we weren't using the right blasting medium because nobody got a very deep blast. But I'd never used one before so it was a fun exercise.
