Well with all this talk of restoration going on around here lately I decided that I'd take it upon myself to fill a void. I decided to make an instructable to give the information a person needs and to help anybody who wanted to restore a pipe.
Check it out! and tell me how I did and if I missed anything.
Hah and you'll also be introduced to the newest addition to my collection. A little more interesting than just posting some pipe porn.

I think you have the basics down (pretty much) there is of course room for debate...

But, then again, when is there never some room for debate? :D (in here especially)
Good job.

Haha so true. There isn't one 'fact' about pipes that can't be debated. I am glad to hear that I covered all the basics well enough to give people a good base to move from.

Particularly encouraging is your admission of learning something Jason gone. Since my intent was to teach and help it means I've succeeded!

That's a great tutorial, Matt! If you don't mind, I'd like to place it on my Wordpress.com blog, link to it in Twitter, and Reddit if you haven't already. I have a pipe review I'm working on at the moment and should have that up shortly.
There are some minor differences in how I restore, but that's definitely the basics of what I've learned. What I'd love to learn more about myself is fixing cracked shanks, and dented metal bands.
