Hey Folks,
If you have an old color Grabow with a scorched or beat up rim, here is a way that you can make it look like new again.
Here are a few before and after pics of a red Viscount that I spruced up a couple weeks ago. In the first pics you can see that it is pretty beat up . The rest of the pipe is pretty nice though so it didn't need a complete refinishing.

The first thing I did was to top the rim by placing a piece of 220 grit wet or dry sandpaper on a hard flat surface and rotating the rim around on it and then repeating the same process with 400 grit and then worn out 400 grit. Then I taped up everything but the rim with blue painters tape. The cotton in the bowl is to keep paint out of the inside of the bowl. Before painting I wet the cotton ball to keep the little strands of cotton from getting on the rim.

I use VHT or Duplicolor high heat engine enamel for these pipes. I think the color that matches these red ones pretty well is called Universal Bright Red. Here are a couple pics after a few smokes.
