Removing carnauba wax

I just finished my pipe and noticed some scratches I missed. Also I wanted to stain the plateaux with black dye. I was wondering if a tripoli buff will take of the the carnauba wax and if it will, will the wax ruin the tripoli buffing wheel? Thanks for you help, Kevin.

Sand the pipe with whatever it takes to remove scratches- probably 320 followed by 600- then stain. Use a brass rotating brush on the plateaux- then restain. You can't stain after using tripoli...
