Greetings everyone! Recently told my doctors I was able to stop smoking cold turkey. When they asked how, I stated I simply smoke a pipe 3 times a day or so, and i haven't touched cigarettes ever again. Well of course they didnt like this, but I reminded them that I no longer inhale smoke into my lungs. Begrudgingly, they changed my chart from smoker to non-smoker, however smokes pipe...lol. I smoked for many years and several years ago was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder which has progressed to the point of me in a wheelchair. My diaphragm is getting weaker and I couldnt tolerate the cigarettes anymore. My doctors are actually happy with my progress and dont think I have to quite smoking. It relaxes me, plus puts me in contact with some of the best people I have ever met! Thank you for this forum, to all of you for your input. I have been an avid reader for at least 8 months and am finally joining the madness! Thank you for being the coolest group of people on the planet, I am just sorry I didnt find you guys and gals sooner. Cheers!

Of course you are inhaling smoke, just not big, direct draughts of it. So, IO suppose you are mitigating a bit but, I fully understand your doctor's reaction.
it's amazing how the body works. It can really repair and handle a lot of things to a point. The little bit of not direct smoke is something the body can clear easily. It's like that with alcohol. A little bit actually helps the body a little more isn't too bad but a lot of it completely wrecks it. Because the mechanisms to handle these things can only do so much. A little wisp of smoke here or there and the lungs can clear it before it gets to be something bad. It's a little more then mitigation. Then again the tolerances for these things varies pretty dramatically from person to person. Some people can chain smoke cigs and live to a old age with great lung function and the other way too some peoples bodies can't handle much of anything at all.
