Record for Group Pipe Purchase

Does anyone feel they might hold records for buying the most pipes for personal use at once?

I've bought several in a month, but never from one place, and only rarely. I'm thinking of someone

who has bought from an antique store, flea market, or private party a whole group of pipes intended

for personal use. Let's stipulate a second category of multiple purchase where the intention is to keep

some and restore and resell most of them, category two. So category one, most pipes bought all at once

for your own use, and category two, most pipes bought for restoration, resale, and maybe a few for

personal use. None of this can be by a professional pipe person. A little info about the circumstances

would be good. And there doesn't have to be one or two declared winners. We're after the stories, and

the numbers.

Category 1 - A collection of 12 pipes for my use including a Pre_Trans Barling straight grain, several Sasieni 8 Dots, a couple of Comoy's Blue Ribands, and a few other interesting odds and ends.
Category 2 - 28 junkers upon which I could perform diabolical experiments

Twelve pipes for personal use, and 28 junkers for trial repairs, that's impressive! You're definitely the front runner; you've set the bar.

In 2010 I purchased 12 pipes, which is my personal best. Alas, I did not buy them all at the same time. This year, I have only bought (gasp) 3, three briar pipes! hahahahahah (thunder). Chose instead to re-stem and repair some of the more worn out of the herd.

There's a reason why it's called a "disorder"!

But in my defense, the junkers were bought for $3 apiece. And the good stuff was $400 for the entire lot which was a good deal considering what was in it and the condition.

Still, at this point in my history of collecting, buying even one more pipe is SO completely unnecessary that only being a bit unhinged could account for making any more purchases.

I have bought 27 American artisan pipes in the last 13 months. I have never bought a pipe purposely to re sell and have never bought a pipe to refurbish.

If you mean the most pipes in a singe transaction, definitely not me - most I have ever bought in a single transaction for personal use is 4.
