All I can say is wow! This pipe is in pretty damn nice shape for a 60(?) year old pipe.

It was packed perfectly with a nice note from.

I used some alcohol and pipe cleaners and everything seemed very clean so I packed a bowl of the last of my Hal 'O The Wynd and went out for a smoke.

YUCK! The first taste I got was that of an old guy's sock drawer. I don't mean the taste of feet, but the slight taste of cologne and age. It made me gag slightly.

I tried a couple of more draws, but I couldn't get past that smell/flavor.

I knocked out the pipe and washed my mouth out with some fresh beer.

Did the salt and alcohol treatment and I am going to let that simmer for a day or two.

That taste is still with me. What a waste of tobacco.

Yikes!

That ain't good to hear.
That pipe is definitely a good looker,

hopefully the treatment will bring it into being a good tasty burner.
Hope everything works out well.

Sorry to hear it Twang - I am betting it'll shape up after a good cleaning. Let us see it once done and good luck.

Always a consideration with estate pipes from random sources, where the pipe hasn't been professionally

sanitized and reconditioned. If it looks great, you just don't know.
